Hello, my name is Julia Lovelace, I go by Jules, and here is a little bit about me! I grew up in Clayton, California which is a small town in the Bay Area that nobody often hears of. Growing up I fell in love with sports and being outdoors from a very young age. I think I learned how to kick a soccer ball around probably at the same time I learned to walk. I played all different sports growing up but soccer just stuck. Going into high school I got the opportunity to try out for the inaugural season of our girl’s flag football team my junior year, and I got the honor to be a captain as well as the quarterback. We won state our first year which is something I will never forget, as well as the friendships that felt more like family along the way. I’ve always been a pretty outgoing person since I could remember, and I love to say that social anxiety is scared of me. Something that I am incredibly passionate about is mental health. As someone who has struggled with a mental illness for years, I try to advocate and help those who are afraid to speak up and get help. I use social media to help share my voice with those who feel like they can’t use theirs. I also got a tattoo of a shark with writing underneath that reads, “Just keep swimming” because it’s something my little sister always tells me.
My main goal in life is to help as many people as I possibly can, and that’s why I came to the University of Nevada, Reno. When I came here it felt like home and a place that I could fit right in to. I took a big leap of faith and decided to rush and join a sorority, which is something I never saw myself doing. When I decided to join a sorority, I went Sigma Kappa because that is what felt right for me. As my freshman year comes to a close, I can proudly say that I am so incredibly privileged to be a part of something bigger than myself that represents a cause I resonate with.
